Hi ! My name is Romain Vergnaud and I’m currently in my 5th and last year of study at Supinfogame Rubika, a Game Design school located in Valenciennes (France).
My journey to game design began when I was 11 years old and discovered mods. At the time I was a passionate player of the Battlefield serie and I quickly stumbled upon mods, it seemed like a revolution to me, especially since it was made by players therefore I quickly started reasearching.
As Battlefield 2 came out I started on my own with simple modifications, looking tutorials here and there and overall learning as much as I could. That’s when I met the Project Reality team and their French Force section which brought to my first real mod project, I was part of the team and worked countless hours on my free time while learning many things in all domains. I continued to work on small projects aside until I joined the Casus Belli team (Crysis mod) which was my biggest project to date. I learned to work with people from different countries with time constraints, use the Cryengine and work with “AAA” standards in mind.
That’s when I decided the game design was my way, over the years spent modding I learned a lot : Level design, Game design, Sound design, Programming, Q&A…. and I really wanted to concretize all of this into a degree. Therefore Supinfogame was my first choice as it gives you an opportunity to work on a game for a whole year (during your last year) and on many projects throughout the curriculum.
